Robust Optimization Model for Container Shipping Line

In this paper, optimization of container line under uncertainty was discussed. Firstly, a deterministic model for the problem was developed according to the characteristics and requirement of container line, the model considered ship deployment, slot allocation, and empty container reposition simultaneously. Secondly, a robust optimization model for container shipping line considering uncertain factors was developed, the model include solution robustness and model robustness. And, from different decision level, the ship size and slot allocation were treated as design variables respectively to formulate optimization model. Lastly, effectiveness of the proposed model was demonstrated using the pendulum shipping line as an example. Results indicate that the robust optimization model can improve the stability of shipping line, reflect the influence of uncertainty factors to shipping line decision effectively, and improve the assets utilization efficiency of shipping line.
