Rapid Detection of Waterborne Protozoa in Environmental Samples with a Filter-Based Biochip

We have performed trapping and detection of protozoa cells Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia with real samples using a filter-based biochip that can substantially minimize clogging. The filter-based biochip is designed with bypass filter concept to relieve pressure buildup, hence improve clogging sensitivity, and sample handling capacity. This biochip may be further integrated for use in accordance to US EPA Method 1623 for detection of Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia.
