Research on Harmonics of Multiphase Induction Motors

Though a lot of advantages over the conventional three-phase drives, systems composed by multiphase motor and voltage source inverter (VSI) have a drawback of great harmonic currents in stator windings. In the paper, a novel filtering method is proposed. Construction of the filter is resembled that of the stator of a multi-phase induction motor. The filter is able to reduce the selected substantial harmonic currents effectively but free to the fundamental one. Principle of filter is expounded theoretically in the paper. Numerical simulation and experimental results show the validity of the method as well as expected.
