Near Fields Scattering in Microwave Medical and Industrial Applications

In the medical and industrial application, the microwave sources are often put near irradiated dielectric materials. At proximity of the application, the radiated fields have the properties of near-zone fields. In this paper we investigate the consequences induced on heating process by near-fields scattering across slots in the dissipated milieus. The applicators constituted by antennas network are look into. It's revealed that the characteristic properties of networks can't be applied because of the existence of the near-zone fields and great losses in the dielectric material. Then two examples of application are described : Therapeutic hyperthermia and microwave browning of foods.
