Intermittent Drug Administration During Labor and Protection of the Fetus

This note describes a method designed to allow drugging of the mother during labor without the child's being significantly affected. The method takes advantage of intervals in each contraction during which the maternal and fetal bloodstreams are unconnected, and in the present is implemented with the aid of a simple electronic unit that uses the signal supplied by a uterine activity transducer to control an injection pump. The results obtained in some sample cases are presented.
