Vector error-correction techniques have been used for many years to enhance the accuracy of measurements taken with a network analyzer. The HP 8510A network analyzer, introduced in 1984, revolutionized the way microwave engineers approached S-parameter measurements by internalizing the error correction process within the instrumentation. The fast, built-in computer allowed the measurement data to be error-corrected while it was being taken. For the first time, high quality measurement results could be taken fast enough to allow "tuning and tweaking" of the device during measurement.
