Progress in the Field Validation of the Cable Monitoring and Rating System

Recent developments in underground electric cable technology offer potentially significant improvements in cable utilization. A blend of well known thermal modeling techniques with modern estimation and control theory provides the basis for real-time thermal monitoring, load rating, and prediction capability for operators of high voltage underground transmission systems.
