This paper originated as two separate reports: Cleaning Up the Remains of Nuclear Facilities-A Multibihlion Dollar Problem, a report to the Congress by the Comptroller General of the United States, June 16, 1977, (EMD-77-46); and Nuclear Energy's Dilemma: Disposing of Hazardous Radioactive Waste Safely, a report to the Congress by the comptroller General of the United States, September 9, 1977, (EMD-77-41). As presented here, this is essentially the full statement as presented in hearings before the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, Madison, Wisconsin, as part of the Commission's continuing hearings on "advance plans for construction of facilities" as filed with the Commission for review and approval pursuant to Section 196.49, Wisconsin Statutes.
