High Speed Photography of Surface Flashover across a Divided Insulator in Vacuum

The results of photographic observations of arc development across a divided insulator in vacuum are presented. It is shown that, for a composite insulator of three sections, the time difference between the flashover of the sections is less than the limit of resolution of the camera, that is, much less than one nanosecond.
