A Fundamental Study of Flammability of Aromatic Base Electrical Insulating Oils

To investigate the flammability of aromatic base electrical insulating oils, the vapor pressures of alkyldiphenylethane and alkylnaphthalene have been measured precisely over a wide range of temperatures by an ebulliometer, and the parameters for Antoine's equation have been obtained for both fluids. Using these data and the calculated vapor concentrations at a lower explosion limit of both fluids, their flash points have been calculated. These values nearly coincide with the measured ones. Judging from the results, the projection is made that a 300 ° C flash point aromatic hydrocarbon fluid must have a 500 ° C boiling point and a carbon number of 36.
