A new atmospheric noise model and its implementation in a real-time signal processing system

The Institute for Telecommunication Sciences has developed a new wideband high-frequency (WBHF) propagation model and new WBHF narrowband and atmospheric noise models. The author describes the atmospheric noise component of the WBHF Simulation System and its implementation in a commercially available digital signal processing (DSP) board. The system employs a comprehensive design that permits significant flexibility in the definition and implementation of complex noise models with a minimum of DSP computation cycles. The simulator is part of a WBHF channel simulation system that is currently being used for the development and testing of advanced technology WBHF radio systems.<
