Application of the analytical hierarchy process to the design of a user-adaptable, tactical decision aid

Decision support systems based on the use of artificial intelligence technology, commonly referred to as knowledge-based systems or expert systems, help preserve corporate knowledge, support on-the-job training, and enhance the skill-level of novice decision makers. For the system developer a very important design goal is user acceptance. This is particularly true when the users are experts in their field. One way to achieve acceptance is to involve the user in the system design process. Another way is to develop a system that can be field-tailored by the user. This paper describes how this latter approach is being followed in the design of a tactical decision aid for combat management via the use of the analytical hierarchy process.<
