A mono-structural thin plate touch sensor with compound electrical sensing functions for discrimination of material properties

For discrimination of material properties, a new thin plate touch sensor was developed. The uniqueness of the sensor is that it possesses two compound sensing functions for electrical properties, one for inductive property and one for capacitive property, while it is a mono-structure formed by a pair of filamentary spiral wires on a thin insulated plate. Eight kinds of well-known materials such as iron, aluminum, bronze, gum, wood, acrylic and styrene foam were used as test samples to investigate the properties of the sensor, and the measurement results showed that it was possible to distinguish these samples.<
