Dose rate effect on radiation induced attenuation of pure silica core optical fibres

Wavelength (600-1600 nm) and time (1000-10000 h) dependence of the 'in situ' /sup 60/Co gamma ray-induced light losses in the pure silica core fibers of high OH and low OH contents, and single mode have been measured under various experimental conditions of high (10/sup 6/ R/h) and low (10/sup 2/ R/h) exposure rate irradiation at ambient temperature, and at various temperatures ranging from -60 degrees C to 100 degrees C at 4*10/sup 3/ R/h. The behavior of the losses were discussed, and an empirical expression for estimating the loss by long term irradiation was presented.<
