Corporate hiring

As corporations throughout the United States do their best to survive, many are "downsizing" to reduce their staff and other expenses. Inevitably, this means decreased hiring, and thus bleak job prospects for graduating students. Even engineers are being hit hard by corporate belt-tightening. In the past, hiring was dominated by large firms with large budgets for recruiting top talent. These companies would send representatives to campus job fairs and well-advertised on-campus recruiting sessions. However, because the changing job market means fewer job openings for graduating engineers, the employment offers which the students do receive are often not closely matched to the student's interests.<
