Object counting and sizing

To assess taxes on citrus groves, the Property Appraiser offices in Charlotte county, Florida, use aerial photographs of the groves and manually count the trees. The process was inefficient and the error margin large. We describe the system that we developed to electronically scan the aerial photographs, transform them into digital images and use pattern recognition to count, size, and find location of trees on each photo. This system is also used in many other applications such as biomedicine (counting cells), oceanography (counting fish), quality inspection (counting and size impurities).<
