H/sub infinity / control design and quantitative feedback theory

The H/sub infinity / design approach has the advantage that it is relatively easy to use and iterate upon. There is probably no need for the users to fully understand the details of algorithms, but they should understand the design process. There are practical limitations and disadvantages including the fact that high order controllers are often obtained whereas the classical control paradigm utilised low order controllers. However, controllers can be model reduced and the results obtained from many researchers have been sufficiently attractive that this approach is destined to become one of the options regularly used by the control designer.<
