Concepts of reactor physics, without the mathematics

Basic concepts of reactor physics are presented in a nonmathematical format as an introduction for engineers working with nuclear power plant design. The fission process forms the basis for the neutron life cycle, a physical concept that is modeled mathematically with the six factor formula. The goal of reactivity control is to influence one or more of these six factors. Control of reactor power in both pressurized water reactors and boiling water reactors is achieved through addition of either positive or negative reactivity.<
