A multicenter cardiological information system in rehabilitation: the SIC project

The SIC project was started in 1991 by the Fondazione Clinica del Lavoro IRCCS (FCL), with the aim of realizing an information system to reach these main goals: information gathering, storage, management, and retrieval in cardiology departments in three FCL rehabilitation centers; full data coverage of the single patient, for clinical, management, and scientific purposes; elimination of repetitive clerical activities; improvement of data flow between the various entities present in the department; optimization of the services provided; integration with pre-existent databases; and support to clinical research. The system, realized using advanced tools and architectures, has been in use since its first installation in April 1992.<
