Further development of the aluminum-air telecommunications reserve power source

Aluminum-air power sources for reserve applications have undergone successful discharge testing with a variety of potential users. Their diverse requirements have expanded the initial operational range of the units, which were characterized as 600 W and 1.2 kW. The introduction of a new cell which permits operation at higher power levels (6 kW) is described. It is concluded that under typical usage profiles likely to be desired in Europe and North America, aluminum-air power sources are cost- and space-effective alternatives to conventional diesel generator sets and secondary battery systems.<
