A wind driven self-excited induction generator with terminal voltage controller and protection circuits

A stand alone variable frequency, constant voltage self-excited induction generator coupled to a wind turbine located at a remote place is discussed in this paper. The generator is fully protected against demagnetisation, overload, overspeed, underspeed, etc. The scheme is cost effective, simple and ideally suited for unmanned stand alone wind generating stations. A unit has been fabricated and tested for its reliable operation under varying speeds and loads with all protections, for a 11 kW, 50 Hz, 415 V, 3 phase, 960 RPM induction machine.<
