Accelerator tests of a position sensitive silicon strip detector

The authors report on the results of a Bevalac accelerator test of a double-sided, 145 mu m-thick silicon strip detector. This test was a part of a calibration of silicon detectors which are being mapped for use in the NASA WIND spacecraft experiment called EPACT (Energetic Particles: Acceleration, Composition and Transport). The performance of the device was good with each 500- mu m strip individually resolved, with one exception. The noise, dominated by the chip resistors on the mount, was less than 214 mu A. Some evidence of charge leaking from one section of the detector to adjacent sections was observed.<
