DOE SNM processing glovebox material exposure environments

Robotics, teleoperation, and other automated equipment is being developed for nuclear material processing gloveboxes to increase productivity and reduce risks and routine operator exposures. Development time and costs directly relate to the extent that subsystems must be specially chosen or modified for specific glovebox environments. LLNL (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory) has surveyed the types of glovebox environments within the US DOE (Department of Energy) complex to characterize the nature of possible applications. Resulting matrices permit comparison of hostile environment levels to a glovebox usage and of hardening measures with benefits.<
