Increasing UPS and computer reliability in large installations

The author examines different uninterruptible power system configurations to determine the most reliable system for a reasonable cost. Series and parallel configurations are examined with respect to their true reliability in realistic installations. Module simplification and redundancy are examined and appear to give reliability improvements over some configurations. Component simplification offers promising reliability figures at a cost competitive with common series systems and warrants further examination with possible prototyping.<
