New directions in grammatical inference

An introduction is given to grammatical inference, theory, application and alternatives. Grammatical interference is an important field of research, and it has suffered from the lack of a focused research community. The author discusses what sort of grammars there are and what they can do, then provides a discussion of the types of grammatical inference algorithm that have been successfully employed to date, and concludes with what appears to be the most fruitful future directions.<
