Accreditation-roles, responsibilities and relationships between the Professional Institutions and the Engineering Council

The Professional Institutions and the Engineering Council operate with the collective objectives of representing and developing the engineering profession in its broadest sense and the various branches of that discipline which it comprises. There are, however, inevitable differences between the specific mechanisms which professional institutions may use to discharge their responsibilities; further the role of the Engineering Council is, of necessity, a more wide ranging one than that of the professional institutions. Here, the author concludes that accreditation is not a spent force but that the roles and responsibilities are currently poorly defined and shared, and that makes for ineffective relationships.<
