Managing engineering development utilizing a general hardware description language

To compete in a global economy, new strategies must be developed that facilitate entrance into the marketplace, increase technology transfer, and reduce engineering costs. Utilization of a general hardware description language (HDL) will achieve these goals and allow competition in a global market. An HDL facilitates technology transfer and prevents the fielding of an obsolete system. Using HDL technology effectively will result in a superior, low-cost product with a hyperextended system life. Additionally, HDL allows sound concurrent engineering practices to be exercised by capturing design rationale. The MIMIC (Microwave and Millimeter Wave Monolithic Integrated Circuits) Hardware Description Language (MHDL) is considered as an example.<
