Optimization of toroidal field coil conductor properties for BPX

Mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties, as well as its commercial availability in large plate form, made CDA C17510 copper alloy the primary candidate for use as the TF (toroidal field) coil conductor. Research was performed in order to improve the material properties. A set of small plates having different production processes was produced with enhanced strength, ductility, and electrical conductivity. Results of the program led to the production of a C17510 plate with properties optimized for the BPX (Burning Plasma Experiment).<
