Understanding road accidents-a rule induction approach

Concerns the application of expert systems to road accident investigation work. The paper describes an experiment to investigate whether effective rules for distinguishing between junction control types can be established and more generally to investigate the usefulness of rule induction in the accident investigation field. This was done by applying each of two rule induction packages to a data set derived from accidents records held by Hertfordshire County Council. The results indicate that the method was not very successful, but it is suggested that the method may be found successful for related problems.<
