Noise characterisation of mode-locked laser sources using high-speed InGaAs photodetectors

The authors briefly describe techniques by which both phase and amplitude noise can be measured in a mode-locked laser in the frequency domain using a high speed InGaAs photodiode-spectrum analyser combination. Two laser systems have been examined, a KCl:Tl colour centre laser both synchronously and coupled-cavity mode-locked and an InGaAsP mode-locked semiconductor diode laser having either a synthesised or crystal-based RF current drive source.<
