Studies on very high speed electrostatic surface discharge between an earthed electrode and a charged film

The high speed electrostatic discharge between a charged film (50 mu m thick FEP or 200 mu m thick PTFE teflon) and a grounded sphere electrode where a connecting wire length was 20 cm was observed experimentally. Surface charge polarity effects and sphere size effects (from 3 to 25 mm in diameter) are focused on where the parameters are discharge current waveform, current peak value, gap distance, surface charge profile, total moved charge, and so on. the surface potentials before ESD tests were from 2 to 6 kV for FEP and 8 kV for PTFE. For small sphere electrode (3 or 5 mm in diameter, about 10 times that of the gap), a discharge gap for negative charging is smaller than that for positive charging.<
