The Consensus approach to intelligent systems engineering

A large-scale application in the area of air traffic control (ATC) has been built to allow the Consensus methodology to be evaluated. The Consensus project is using Craig's (1989) Cassandra architecture-a refinement of the blackboard architecture-as a framework for designing distributed AI applications, coupling it with the real-time structured analysis techniques of Hatley & Pirbhai (1987), to bring engineering discipline into system development. Examples from the design documentation and source code for the application are given.<
