The Application of Single Neuron Adaptive PID Method to the Speed Control of Isothermal Forging Processes

A speed control system is designed for isothermal forging processes of a hydraulic press. Based on the hydraulic theory and the system structure, the mathematical model of the hydraulic press is formulated with its features discussed. To deal with the characteristics of nonlinear and time-variant of this controlled plant, a single neuron adaptive PID control method is adopted to achieve precise speed control. In this method the controller modifies its parameters online and has better adaptability than those normal PID ones with constant parameters. The experimental results show that the control system has good performance in a large speed range.
