Wide-area robust H/sub 2//H/sub /spl infin// control with pole placement for damping inter-area oscillations

A wide-area robust control method for damping inter-area oscillations of power system is suggested in this paper. Both local and PMU-provided remote signals are utilized as feedback inputs of the controller. First the damping control design is formulated as an output disturbance rejection problem. Then a mixed H

The feedback gain matrix is obtained through solving a family of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Experiments on a 4-generator benchmark system model demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed controller and robustness with respect to variations of the system operating conditions.
