A new intravascular technique for Doppler velocimetry

Considers a new technique for intravascular Doppler ultrasound flow measurement. The authors describe the use of sidemounted crystals for the acquisition of flow data. Doppler measurements of flow parallel to the face of a transducer are normally considered impossible. However, because of the variation of the acoustic field intensity in a direction parallel to the transducer face, or due to small levels of misalignment, coplanar velocity measurement is possible.<
