The role of the persistent polarization in dielectric charging and relaxation of radioelectrets

Charge accumulation in polar dielectrics irradiated with charged particles is accompanied by formation of the slow component of the persistent polarization P/sub s/ which escapes registration by routine measurements of the permittivity in . Some ceramics and glasses with in <10 feature extremely high P/sub s/ on the order of 10/sup -7/ C/cm/sup 2/. The present analysis is based on a two-layer dielectric with a constant conductivity of the irradiated region while P/sub s/ is described by the Debye model. The appearance of the P/sub s/ substantially affects the build-up rate of the space charge in a dielectric.<
