Dielectric studies in zeolite-water systems

The authors use zeolites as model systems in an attempt to study the dynamic properties of water in small volumes under different geometrical confinements. They report on detailed studies of the dielectric properties of compressed Na-X zeolite powders by means of the thermally stimulated depolarization currents (TSDC) method in the temperature range 77-300 K and with water contents up to about 0.6 w/w. For comparison, other absorbates are also studied. The relaxation mechanisms observed are discussed in terms of different structures of water molecules, ion-jumping within the lattice, DC conductivity, and critical water contents.<
