H/sub /spl infin// PID controller stabilization for stable processes with time delay

The H/sub /spl infin// PID controller has been analytically developed on the basis of modern H/sub /spl infin// optimal control theory and it can be tuned by only one control parameter in terms of given quantitative performance and robustness. This paper considers the problem of stabilizing a stable process with time delay using the H/sub /spl infin// PID controller of this kind. Making use of the extended Hermite-Biehler theorem applicable to quasi-polynomials, the stabilizing set of the H/sub /spl infin// PID parameters is determined for open-loop stable plant with time delay. Simulation results not only demonstrate the validity of the obtained stabilizing set but also show that the H/sub /spl infin// PID controller parameter can be tuned in a convenient manner.
