A high efficiency CMOS DC-DC boost converter with current sensing feedback

This paper presents a high efficiency CMOS DC-DC boost converter with current sensing feedback. The internal 500 kHz oscillator for switching operation is used to make set control signal in pulse-width modulation topology. To sense the amount of current through the inductor, the high accuracy current copy circuit using operational amplifier is included. The load regulation is 11.5%/A with compensation scheme that increases the feedback loop gain and accuracy of the output voltage. To guarantee the stability of the converter, the artificial ramp signal is used. The measurement results show that the efficiency is up to 90.7% with 2.2 V input and 220 mA load current for 3.3V output. This converter is fabricated in 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS standard technology with thick gate oxide option.
