Air-hole collapse and mode transitions in microstructured fiber photonic wires

We demonstrate robust low-bend loss microstructured fiber photonic wires, which posses a transition from an embedded regime, insensitive to the surroundings, into an evanescent sensing regime, through controlled air-hole collapse.
