On A/D converter linearization using two-dimensional error-correction tables

Addresses the use of two-dimensional error-correction tables in the linearization of analog-to-digital transfer functions with short memory. The method is applied to the linearization of analog-to-digital (A/D) converters. A/D converter linearity is a key performance limiter in instantaneous wide-bandwidth spectral analysis applications. The authors demonstrate that two-dimensional error-correction tables, generated by a single (i.e. simple) calibration frequency of decreasing amplitude, can reduce harmonic distortion and most intermodulation products in A/D converters over a wide bandwidth relative to the Nyquist bandwidth. Two-dimensional 'phase-plane' and 'state-space' error-correction tables are used to linearize a state-of-the-art 12-bit, 10-megasamples per second (Msps) A/D converter.<
