Design and construction of an antenna in the band of 1700 MHz, for the reception of meteorological images taken by satellites

The paper presents the design and construction of a helical antenna for receiving information transmitted by geostationary satellites. The information is processed to obtain images of the type WEFAX (weather facsimile) with a resolution of 8 km and HRPT (high resolution picture transmission) of 1.1 km. The design of the antenna was carried out by means of a mathematical analysis of the theory of antennas (Kraus, J.D., "Antennas", McGraw-Hill, 1988); in this way, the antenna dimensions were obtained, and tests and adjustments were made so that the antenna has a better performance. Finally, we present the images obtained in the cases mentioned. The obtained images can be used for meteorological analysis.
