Guest-host interactions in nematic liquid crystals with negative dielectric anisotropy

A guest-host cell with small pretilt from homeotropic alignment was made of an Nn-type liquid-crystal and pleochroic dyes. It is shown that this cell displays a colored pattern on a colorless background, country to colour displays of the convential guest-host type.
