Developments of SAS for the applications of BTS

The SAS (smart antenna system) plays an important role in the advanced BTS (base transceiver system). The SAS has the ability to point the maximum antenna power gain in the desired directions, and place the minimum power gain in the undesired directions. The SAS can be provided by adaptive antenna array and MBA (multiple beam antenna array). Several different kinds of SAS have been developed at DYU (Da Yeh University) for the application of cellular phone systems in GSM, WCDMA, and WLAN (wireless local access network). Different kinds of BFN (beamforming network) and antenna elements are developed for these SAS. The RF test results of several kinds of SAS from the WCRC (Wireless Communication Research Center) of DYU are described.
