Li ion energy storage for pulse power applications

This paper describes the recent developments in Li ion energy storage for pulse power applications. SAFT has been developing and producing Li ion technologies for more than 10 years. Li ion developments are showing that as the battery system power performance is substantially increased then more optimum configurations are possible which do not require intermediate storage. This approach reduces system complexity, size and weight while significantly improving reliability and efficiency. Rapid advances are taking place to further improve this capability in anticipation of needs for Compact High Power Sources to power DE and other advanced applications.
