Simulation results for the impact of users' locations and distribution characteristics on the performance of downlink WCDMA/TDD in fading channels

Wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) is a next generation wireless communications air interface technology proposed by the European standardization entities. One of the most important performance measures for WCDMA is the throughput achieved by the users within the coverage area as well as the spectral efficiency. In this paper, we present simulation results for the impact of users' locations and distribution characteristics on the obtained throughput and spectral efficiency of downlink WCDMA in the time division duplexing (TDD) mode under lognormal shadowing. Different scenarios are considered depending on the choice of the frequency reuse factor, whether or not cell sectorization is used and the type of antennas used.
