Fiber arrays for large optical cross-connect switches; a design and reliability study

The typical fiber array specifications for optical cross connect switches and the fabrication and performance of two-dimensional fiber arrays are presented in this paper. Several designs of systems with fiber arrays are presented. Data on the environmental testing of the fibers are also presented.
