Extraction of poles from experimental data-on pencil-of-function method

One of the advantages of the pencil-of-function (POF) for poles extraction is that it can incorporate first-order bias correction. The Prony method can also accomplish this when the difference equations of the Prony procedure are solved by the least-squares method. Numerical results of the POF method show that the accuracy degraded sharply as the number of poles increased to some extent. The reason for this may be the same as that for the Prony method: the accuracy is limited by the pole number, pole distribution, and magnitude of the residues.<
