Nd:YAG laser interaction with AP-mine wrapping materials

In this paper we investigate the interaction between CW Nd:YAG laser radiation and wrapped explosives. Several possible mine wrapping materials are exposed to laser radiation of a wavelength of /spl lambda/=1.064 /spl mu/m and penetration time is measured. Deflagration of different explosives in an original mine case consisting of bakelite is achieved. We have investigated the penetration of Nd:YAG radiation through some realistic synthetic mine wrapping materials. High pressure polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and a real antipersonnel-mine wrapping consisting of bakelite are exposed to the radiation.
