Diamonds (atomic structure and properties)

The atomic structure and properties of diamonds, which can now be routinely synthesized, are examined. Applications of synthetic diamonds, are described. The range of applications includes cutting, grinding, rolling (bearings), transferring pressure, decreasing friction, and recently in electronics. They are most commonly used for a hard edge on cutting tools. Problems associated with diamond manufacturing and product development are discussed.<
